Finding your lost Apple products will become a lot easier later this year. iOS 18.2 includes a new feature that allows you to share Find My items with everyone.
Apple’s Find My app is useful if, for example, you lose your iPhone or don’t know where your AirTag is. It’s already possible to share items in your own Find My with family members you’ve checked in the iCloud settings, but a new feature makes it possible to do this with anyone as well, writes 9to5Mac.
Starting with iOS 18.2, you can request a shareable link in the Find My app. You can then share that link with someone, after which that person can see where the item in question is located. After a few hours the link expires and the location is no longer shared. You can also invalidate the link at any time. Apple gives the example that you can share a link with an airline so that they can help you with a lost device.
The person you share the link with will also see your contact information, making contact easier. You can also check who opened a link you shared.
Share contact info via your AirTag
From iOS 18.2 it will also be possible to share your contact details via your AirTag. You can set it so that if someone holds your AirTag against their iPhone, that person can see your contact details.
The update to iOS 18.2 is expected to be released in December and will include many new Apple Intelligence features. Dutch iPhone and iPad users will not be able to get started with Apple’s AI functions until April.
The update also brings other innovations, such as more options for setting default apps.
