Fine canceled for Google! The giant avoids paying the amount of 1.49 billion euros

The General Court of the EU has overturned a €1.49 billion fine imposed on Google for abusive online advertising practices.

The General Court of the European Union canceled the 1.49 billion euro fine given to Google by the European Commission for abuse of a dominant position in the field of online advertising, reports AFP.

The Luxembourg court ruled that the Commission’s assessment was erroneous and did not take into account all the relevant circumstances regarding the duration of the contractual terms considered unfair.

A moment of respite for Google

The decision could be seen as a moment of respite for Google, after last week the European Court of Justice upheld another 2.42 billion euro fine for favoring its own price comparison service.

The European Commission said it will carefully review the ruling and decide on next steps, with an appeal possible.

Between 2017 and 2019, the EU fined Google a cumulative €8.2 billion for antitrust violations, including a historic fine of €4.3 billion in 2018 for restrictions on Android devices.
