Finland wants to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council

Alexander Stubb, the president of Finland, proposed the exclusion of Russia from the UN Security Council.

The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, announced that he will support the expansion of the UN Security Council and the removal of the veto right for permanent members, including the proposal to exclude Russia from this forum, before his participation in the UN General Assembly in New York, writes Reuters, quoted by The Kyiv Independent.

Stubb said any Council member involved in an illegal war, such as the one Russia is waging in Ukraine, should be suspended from UN structures.

The Finnish president proposed expanding the number of permanent members

Russia, along with the US, Britain, France and China, is one of the five permanent members with veto power, which has led to the blocking of several unitary actions in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.

The Finnish president proposed expanding the number of permanent members to 10, including countries from Latin America, Africa and Asia. Stubb also discussed Ukraine’s victory plan, which President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is due to present to the UN, and called for the lifting of long-range strike restrictions on Ukraine.
