Foreign. An investigation commissioned by the Finnish government suggests that women who have their first child before the age of 30 should receive a grant of 30,000 euros, equivalent to approximately 340,000 kroner.

The goal is to increase Finland’s birth rate, which is the lowest in the Nordic countries and reached a historically low level of 1.26 children per woman in 2023. In comparison, Sweden’s birth rate was 1.45, also a record low.

The proposal is part of a comprehensive list of 20 measures to increase the birth rate. Among the proposed measures are also support for families, investment in couple relationships and improvements in childcare.

– It is important to consider all methods that can contribute to more people wanting to have children, says Anneli Miettinen, who is head of research at Folkpensionsanstalten FPA’s research unit, to SVT.
