An 81-year-old woman died from smoke inhalation after a fire that destroyed the kitchen of the apartment where she lived in Santa Íria de Azóia, Loures.
The alert was given at 12:50 pm on Thursday, and mobilized 20 firefighters and 7 vehicles from the Sacavém corporation to an apartment on Rua da Unity.
The victim was found in the wreckage of the kitchen, in cardiorespiratory arrest. The Medical Vehicle from Santa Maria Hospital, in Lisbon, was called. However, despite resuscitation maneuvers outside, death would be confirmed.
A 90-year-old man would be treated at the scene, also for smoke inhalation, but refused hospitalization.
The Judiciary Police were informed and are investigating the causes of the fire.
