Fire in hospital in India, 10 children died

10 children tragically died in a fire in the children’s ward of a medical college hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India. Officials said that this number may increase further.

The news agency PTI reported that the fire occurred at the Neonatal Intensive Care Center of Maharani Lakshmi Bai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district around 11:15 local time on Friday.

According to a report by news media ND TV, the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.

The atmosphere of the hospital became heavy with the cries of the family members of the dead children.

Sachin Mahar, chief superintendent of the hospital, said there were 54 children in the ward when the fire broke out. Many children are still trapped inside as a result of the terrible fire. Most of the trapped children were rescued by the best efforts of the fire brigade personnel, but 10 children died tragically.

The injured children are being treated at another nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath has inquired about the fire. He directed the authorities concerned to provide better treatment to the injured children.

The Divisional Commissioner of Jhansi and the Deputy Inspector General of Police Range have directed to submit a report on the cause of the fire within 12 hours.
