“Incendiary devices were found”
As the president of the community of Plagiari conveyed earlier to enikos.gr, Nikolas Kouletas«the situation is very difficult, since the fire started from a ravine between Trilofos and Plagiari. Many houses have been damaged by the fire, after it has penetrated into yards. The danger remains, since the fire has not changed direction. The only positive thing is that the intensity of the winds has dropped. A large area has burned».
At the same time, according to Mr. Kouletas, in the area of Trilofos, near where the fire broke out, incendiary devices were found. “If possible, who wants to burn down such a place? Whoever did it should be punished“, added the president.
“Continuous Refires – At least 6 active fronts”
As Mr. Tsilias had reported on enikos.gr, “the situation remains difficult and requires the intervention of all of us. The fire front has now split into six smaller foci. However, the prevailing winds are causing flare-ups in places where the fire has already been extinguished. We are constantly trying to limit it and a new focus is always developing.”

As Mr. Vathrakogiannis said, the “fire reached close to houses and in some cases caused damage” and added that the fire in Thermi Thessaloniki is the third in a row in the last few days in the same area. Regarding the specific fire, Mr. Vathrakogiannis emphasized that it occurred in a mixed zone with high risk, between dense vegetation and residences, and quickly took on dimensions. That is why a message was issued by 112 in order to inform the residents of the area about the fire. 60 firefighters with 2 forest commando teams, 19 vehicles, 5 aircraft and 3 helicopters are operating at the scene. Assistance in the extinguishing project is provided by project machinery and water carriers of the local government. The fire in Gia has no active front
Regarding the fire in Tzia, Mr. Vathrakogiannis pointed out that at the moment there is no active front. As he said, the fire occurred in the area of Poisses on the island of Kea, while two messages were issued from 112 initially for the information and then for the evacuation of the residents, from the areas of Kastelakia and Koundouros to Poisses. Ground forces with forest commandos who were transported by Fire Brigade helicopter from Athens are attempting to extinguish it, while 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters have been allocated for aerial firefighting. Assistance in the extinguishing project is provided by water carriers of the local government, while, as Mr. Vathrakogiannis underlined, a Coast Guard vessel was mobilized from the first moment.
At the same time, Mr. Vathrakogiannis pointed out that today is a very difficult day for the Fire Brigade, “due to the prolonged heat, drought and strong local winds” and added that since the early hours of the morning 48 agroforestry fires have broken out, of which 44 were dealt with immediately and fire forces are dealing with 4 more fires.
“It is important to emphasize that, the high temperatures that have prevailed recently, dangerously increase the start of fires. The attention of all of us is necessary”, he concluded.
