- GTA 6 is scheduled to be released in late 2025
- Take-Two plans releases strategically so that their own games don’t compete with each other
- In addition to GTA 6, the new Mafia and Borderlands 4 are also coming
If you’ve noticed speculation about a possible GTA 6 delay in recent days, you can rest easy. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed in an interview with CNBC that the most anticipated title of the decade will arrive as planned in the fall of next year. More specifically, it should be the period between September and December 2025.
Zelnick was traditionally brief in his comments and mainly referred to the presented trailer. However, during the financial conference, he emphasized that the studio strives for perfection: “We seek perfection. The release will come when we are convinced of a great optimization. We are all united in this.” With the previous installment GTA 5 having sold a whopping 195 million copies across various platforms, the expectations are enormous.
However, Take-Two has other tricks up its sleeve. In the same fiscal year (April 2025 to March 2026), he also plans to release Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, which is interesting not only for Czech players. So that the titles do not compete with each other, the publisher is preparing a carefully timed strategy. In practice, this means that Borderlands 4 will probably be released either in the spring of 2025 or at the beginning of 2026. We can expect a similar timing for the new Mafia, which is being developed by Hangar 13. The Czech studio will thus get enough space before the arrival of GTA 6, which is expected to be the biggest gaming event of 2025.

Unfortunately, PC players will probably have to wait for GTA 6. If we’re going by GTA 5’s release, it could be more than a year late. However, the wait should be worth it – current consoles, including the PlayStation 5, probably won’t be able to exploit the game’s full potential. Even the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro is not expected to be enough to play in native 4K at 60 FPS. It is assumed that it will be necessary to reach for dynamic resolution or upscaling.
At the same time, Take-Two wants to focus more on its main brands in the future – that’s why it recently sold the indie publisher Private Division. All ongoing projects should go under a new owner, with the exception of the action RPG No Rest for the Wicked from Moon Studios, which Take-Two will continue to support.
How are you looking forward to GTA 6?
