Firmware update for AirPods Pro 2nd generation headphones

Apple has released a software update for AirPods Pro 2nd generation headphones (both those with a Lightning connector and a USB-C port). It was marked as build 7B19.

This version eliminates minor bugs, improves stability and performance. Additionally introduces:

  • AirPods Pro 2 with firmware update 7B19 enables three new features when used with an iPhone or iPad running iOS 18.1 or iPadOS 18.1 or later – Hearing Test, Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection.
  • Function hearing test provides scientifically proven hearing test results in the comfort of your own home (intended for users 18 years of age or older).
  • Hearing aid feature provides clinical-level personalized assistance that is automatically applied to sounds in your environment, as well as music, videos and calls (intended for users 18 years of age or older with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss)
  • Hearing protection feature helps users minimize exposure to loud ambient noises in listening modes (available in the US and Canada)

To check the current software version:

  • make sure the headphones are connected to your iOS device
  • open the application Settingsenter the tab Generalto choose This devicefind the AirPods and the software number – it will probably be 7A305.

However, the update should take place automatically after placing the headphones in the case, closing it and connecting it to the power supply. After a while, the installation process should start, but it does not always happen.

Please note that there are no official steps you need to take to force installation.
