First drop tests of the iPhone 16: are they more resistant?

They want to check how much better the Ceramic Shield offered by the iPhone 16 Pro is!

The iPhone faces a “tough” test every year

The iPhone 16 Pro just went through one of the most demanding and difficult physical tests to watch, even if it’s someone else’s smartphone. Every year, the device that Apple carefully develops goes through a drop test that seeks to check how accurate the resistance offered is among its features and above all, if it is superior to that of the iPhone 15, which already had a good reputation.

Sam Kohl of the Apple Track YouTube channel got the scoop. To do this, he traveled to Australia on the day iPhone shipments began and became the first to test the durability of the iPhone 16 Pro. But since a single drop test is not enough, hours later, From the YouTube channel, TechRax, they created their own challenge.

The iPhone 16 faces its toughest test

Apple Track testing subjected the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro to drops from a height of several meters, as seen in the video posted below.

Testing revealed a potential weak point in the device’s design: the bezels. Although Apple’s Ceramic Shield glass proved superior to previous versions, The iPhone 16 Pro’s thinner bezels appear to make the display more vulnerable to damage when it falls on its side.

When the iPhone 16 Pro receives an impact on a corner, The display panel suffers more significant damage compared to previous models like the iPhone 15 Pro. This suggests that while the screen itself can withstand direct impacts, thinner bezels don’t offer the same protection.

For its part, TechRax has conducted even more extreme durability tests, subjecting the iPhone 16 Pro to hammer blows and knives. As expected, the device did not emerge unscathed from these tests.

The titanium edges were easily scratched and the screen broke when it received direct impacts and pieces of the back came off. The test and the result can be seen in the following video

Apple debuted Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone 12 display, claiming it was a far more durable material than any of the competition. On the iPhone 16 Pro, the company says it’s an improved Ceramic Shield, capable of withstanding 50% more drops and scratches than the iPhone 15, which are typical of everyday use — and it’s silent on the more extreme conditions that typically pose such challenges.

In both the Apple Track and TechRax tests, the iPhone 16 Pro came out with damage, whether there is a lot or a little may require a personal assessment, but the truth is that has proven to be more durable than the iPhone 15 Pro.
