OnePlus’ second foldable smartphone can be seen in leaked renders. The OnePlus Open 2 looks quite similar to its predecessor, but there are significant differences.
Check out the OnePlus Open 2 renders
It has been no secret for some time that OnePlus is working on a successor to its folding phone, the OnePlus Open. The foldable device previously appeared in rumors and now images have also been leaked. Website Smartprix publishes the renders of the OnePlus Open 2. The images show the smartphone in full glory and are based on a prototype.
At first glance, the Open 2 looks very similar to its predecessor. We see the characteristic (and large) camera island on the back again. The Hasselblad logo has been moved to a different location and is now at the bottom. The housing is less square and has rounder corners than the first OnePlus Open. On the inside we see the large screen with fairly thin edges and a small hole for the selfie camera.
According to Smartprix, the OnePlus Open 2 will be larger than its predecessor, but also thinner. The new smartphone is said to be just under 10 millimeters thick when folded. For comparison: last year’s OnePlus Open is 11.7 millimeters thick when folded. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is already a bit slimmer at 10.5 millimeters.
The OnePlus Open 2 is also said to be more resistant to water due to the IPX8 certification. The first Open has an IPX4 certification and is therefore only splash-proof.
OnePlus Open 2 specifications
Most specifications of the new OnePlus folding smartphone are now also known. For example, the Open 2 will probably have an 8-inch screen on the inside with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display on the outside is 6.4 inches. Under the hood is possibly the fastest chip of the moment: the Snapdragon 8 Elite. OnePlus has added up to 16GB of RAM and a maximum of 1 terabyte of storage.
Furthermore, the OnePlus Open 2 has a much larger battery. The battery is said to have a capacity of 5900 mAh, which is a significant improvement over the 4805 mAh battery in last year’s Open. Charging is reportedly possible at a maximum of 80 watts (instead of 67 watts) and the Open 2 can also charge wirelessly. There are three 50 megapixel cameras on the back.
The OnePlus Open 2 will probably be announced in China in early 2025. It is not clear if and when the folding phone will also come to Europe, although there are rumors that this will happen in the first quarter of 2025. Until then, the first OnePlus Open is available.
