Fans of the animated trilogy Dragons will be able to rejoice, since the first image of the live-action remake was revealed in a famous American media outlet.

Launched in 2010, the trilogy Dragons is among the greatest animated cinema successes of the 2010s. If they do not reach the records broken by The Snow Queen or Zootopia, the movies Dragons can nevertheless be proud of having reaped good box office receipts, despite falling budgets. The third part of this saga freely inspired by a literary fantasy saga aimed at young people was also nominated for the Oscar for best animated film in 2020which was ultimately won by Toy Story 4 you studio Pixar.
In February 2023, we learned thata live-action remake was in production at Universal Pictures. Dean DeBlois – best known for co-directing the Disney animated classic Lilo & Stitch – returns as director and screenwriter of the film, after having directed the three films of the DreamWorks trilogy. Actor Gérard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Brute. He is joined by British comedian Nick Frost (the Trilogy Croissant) and by the young actress Nico Parker, whom you saw in the first season of The Last of Us.
Scheduled in theaters for June 11, 2025, the live-action remake of Dragons is revealed in images in the latest issue of the American magazine Empirewhich received exclusivity.
This live-action remake of Dragons is quite a gamble on the part of Universal. Indeed, the Hollywood major uses this film as its entry ticket into the famous Fantasy War, launched after the conclusion of Game of Thrones in 2019. It is true that, while the competition had thrown itself into the fray with numerous proposals – a number of which aroused the exasperation of fans -, Universal had stayed away, betting everything on the sagas Jurassic World et Fast & Furious. Note also that theand movies Dragons was filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and therefore should benefit from the same locations as the series Game of Thrones et House of the Dragon.
Furthermore, thehe numerous live-action adaptations of Disney animated classics have undoubtedly encouraged Universal to imitate the big-eared major. We recall that Disney live-actions brought in more than $10 billion in revenue for a total budget of around $2.4 million. If for now, Universal has not announced any further live-action adaptations of DreamWorks Animation classics, we could nevertheless expect that the studio would consider repeating the experiment with Shrek, Sinbad, Spirit or even The Route d’El Dorado.
