First ROG Phone 9 Leak Teases Updated Display, More

The series ASUS ROG Phone made people talk about him this year with the ROG Phone 8abandoning its “gaming only” image and adopting a more balanced approach to offer a flagship experience for everyone. Now, without even waiting long, the first rumors about its successor, the ROG Phone 9.

A recent post on Weibo by leaker often reliable Smart Pikachu has seemingly lifted the lid on some of the key specifications of the ROG Phone 9. Unsurprisingly, the device is powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4the power expected for many Android flagships in 2025.

One of the more intriguing aspects of the leak is the mention of a display “updated“. This could refer to a brighter panel, a higher resolution than the current screen FHD+ 165Hz from the ROG Phone 8 series, or maybe even a combination of both. Additionally, the ROG Phone 9 could arrive with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB internal storagewhich is also the highest storage configuration in the ROG Phone 8.

The post also features a screenshot of what is said to be a ROG Phone 9 listing on China’s 3C certification platform. This listing, which lists the model number “ASUSAI2501A“, suggests that ROG Phone 9 will support the 65W wired chargingwhich is once again consistent with the ROG Phone 8.

ROG Phone 9 could launch in China before the end of 2024following a similar timeline to the ROG Phone 8. Availability in the rest of the world is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2025.
