First Torrent Apps Arrive on iPhone

Thanks to the alternative marketplace AltStore PAL, iPhone users in the EU can now download and use torrenting appsa category historically banned by Apple. This change was made possible by the introduction of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which reduced Apple’s control over the apps available in the ecosystem. There is no longer a need to jailbreak your device to access these apps.

These are the titles of app Torrent currently available on AltStore PAL:

  • iTorrent: A torrent client for iOS.
  • qBitControl: A remote client to manage qBittorrent on desktop systems.

Apple has always banned torrent apps from its App Store, claiming that they are often used to infringe copyright. However, with the DMA, Apple has had to loosen its control, allowing alternative marketplaces like AltStore PAL to offer apps that do not meet the company’s guidelines.

To access new apps on AltStore PAL, you need an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later. The service requires a subscription fee of €1.50 per year to cover Apple’s fees.
