In Cincinnati, Alexander Zverev will face his rival from the 2021 Olympic final on the hard court. The German number one once again clearly wins the match.
Tennis professional Alexander Zverev has confidently advanced to the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Open on his way to the US Open. The 27-year-old from Hamburg beat Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-2 at the ATP tournament in the USA. At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the world number four also defeated the Russian in the final. At that time, Zverev clearly won the match 6-3, 6-1 and became the first German to win the gold medal in singles. The US Open in New York begins on August 26.
It is the second tournament for the German number one since the Olympic Games in Paris, which ended last Sunday. In the singles, Zverev had to admit defeat to the Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals, thus burying his dream of another Olympic victory. Zverev was also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal last Sunday against the American Sebastian Korda.
