Recently, my language ear has registered a totally overrated buzzword in the Danish language. It’s a word of just 3 letters, yet you hear the word constantly on radio, TV and in real life. And the Danish word for the 3 letters is:
HER
Yes, you read that correctly: I have gone completely cold in the exasperated overuse of the word “here” – a Danish adverb (I think) which can be used in many different constellations and contexts.
- Her was cold
- He took it her jacket with him
- She came her from the country
- Her at land
- The bike stays straight her
Hear me there everywhere
I actually like the word, but I’m sick of the way the word has to be pronounced all of a sudden. Petitesse, many will probably think. But anyway. The word has been Judified. Today, many people pronounce he as if the word’s only vowel is an æ. Another vowel has been added, namely an e and a consonant: r. So the word here is pronounced by many as hære.
And the word is pulled completely off a tangent, so that it seems to be more trendy to say armies. Yes, Allan, get a life. But try to think about it the next time you hear, for example, football commentator Arnela Muminović on DR Sporten. There really are armies going into it.
Well, no more fly hall noise from me. I’ll probably see if I can get on with my somewhat limited linguistic life. Instead, I am serving you 5 Friday links, which are about Danish football, good deals, the Ministry of Taxation, Tindebox and the Danish students of the year.
https://skm.dk: Whoah whoah. I hope it’s not bad that my tax crowns or tax return were in the office in the Ministry of Taxation, which was a bit off on Thursday morning.
https://www.dbu.dk: Come on, Denmark. Show that you can score goals and that you want to beat our German neighbors when you meet in a football match in Dortmund on Saturday night.
https://www.dealify.com: It happens every now and then that I come across a good deal here at Dealify, which helps with various software and online services.
https://tinderbox.dk: Thursday started this year’s Tinderbox festival in Odense. If I were part of the party, I would definitely go for e.g. Kalaset, Pil, Beth Hart, Guldimund, Bo Kaspers Orchestra, Bryan Adams, Benjamin Hav & the Family and Lenny Kravitz.
https://www.studenterugen.dk: And finally, a big congratulations to the country’s students. You have deserved to fire it for a few weeks regardless of the color of the cap.
