The games of musical greats have begun, and the best among the best, the world opera star Jonas Kaufman, opened the 56th BEMUS – Belgrade Music Festival with an unforgettable Gala concert, which was held on October 1 in the Sava Center.

At his first performance in Belgrade, Jonas Kaufman confirmed that he is definitely the greatest tenor of today. The Belgrade audience welcomed the great man with enthusiasm, and the concert lasted longer than planned, because the audience brought Kaufman back to the stage with several minutes of standing ovations when he performed five encores.

Kaufman performed accompanied by the outstanding Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra under the baton of the German conductor Johann Rieder. In the first part of the concert, the audience enjoyed the masterly performance of famous arias from the operas “Gioconda”, “Carmen”, “Tosca”, “Andrea Senia”, as well as from the operettas “Land of Smiles” and “Circus Princess”, and their love for film music Kaufman shared with the audience by performing themes from the films “Once Upon a Time in America”, “The Mission” and “Gladiator”.

But the regular part of the program was not enough, because the audience returned Kaufman to the stage with persistent ovations when he performed the legendary numbers “Se” from “Cinema Paradiso”, “Strangers in The Night” by Frank Sinatra, “Non ti scordar di me”, Puccini’s aria “Nessun dorma” and finally “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

BEMUS was officially opened by Mr. Miomir Đorđević, State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, who pointed out that the oldest music festival in the country has long since surpassed the limits of Belgrade and Serbia.

The Belgrade music festivities will last until October 26, and the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the concerts of numerous domestic and international greats in Kolarč’s endowment, including violinist Kiril Trusov and pianist Aleksandra Trusova (October 18), cellist Petar Pejčić and pianist Dmitro Semikras. (15.10.), cellist Maja Bogdanović and pianist Nino Gvetadze (15.10.), flautist Silvija Karedu with the RTS Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Srba Dinić (19.10.), pianist Eva Gevorgijan accompanied by the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Sergej Smbatian (24.10. ). The festival will close on October 26 with a concert by the famous pianist Simon Trpčeski, who will perform with the orchestra Virtuosi, under the direction of Bojan Suđić. Numerous other concerts will be held throughout the month, and the entire program can be found on the festival’s website bemus.rs.
