The last match of the 12th stage of League 2 will be hosted by the leader of the ranking, FK Miercurea Ciuc, today, Tuesday, November 5, 2025, from 17:00, against CSM Slatina, one of the teams considered uncomfortable. The Harghites have secured their place in the ranking, while the team from Olte can move up four positions, to 6th place, in the event of a victory.
In press statements made before this matchthe most important speech of Robert Ilyeș, the coach of Ciuc, was: “If we get the three points, then I can say that we are 99 percent in the play-offs.” So, if the band from Harghita wins today, then Ilyeș considers itself qualified for the play-off with nine stages before the end of the regular season.
FK Miercurea Ciuc comes after a big victory in the Romanian Cup, is invincible this season and has the maximum score at home in League 2
Against CSM Slatina, FK Miercurea Ciuc played in the middle of last week, in the first stage of the Romanian Cup group stagewhere he managed an important result against a first division, 2-1 with SC Oțelul Galati. Instead, the team from Olte was shamefully eliminated from the Play-off phase, on penalty kicks, by the modest Agricola Borcea, from League 3.
In this context, Robert Ilyeș said before this match that his team is still feeling it after the match with Dorinel Munteanu’s team, but he has faith in the players who will replace those who were injured on Wednesday. At least Alexander Torvund and Benjamin Babati were injured during the game with the Galatians. The statements of the coach of the hammers you can read them HERE.
In the championship, FK Miercurea Ciuc also played at home in the previous round, beating FCU Craiova 2-0. In the last five matches the team did not concede a goal and registered four victories, three of which are consecutive. Moreover, Ilyeș’s team is one of the last two remaining undefeated this season, along with Steaua, with whom it had the only semi-failure, 0-0 in Ghencea, and at home it is the only team in the championship that has the maximum score. The Harghitans have six home games and all have been won.
CSM Slatina has not won in the last three stages
On the other hand, CSM Slatina has three matches since they haven’t won: 1-1 at home with Steaua, 0-1 at CSM Focșani and 0-0 at home with FC Bihor. In addition, he is the top scorer of the championship, but Cătălin Doman, with 7 successes, did not really have a competitor this season, because he scored six goals in the first four stages, and since then he scored only once, from the penalty .
Like Doman, the team he captains is also in decline. Slatina occupies the 10th place in League 2, with 16 points, defeated so far by two newly promoted teams, Metalul Buzău and CSM Focșani. He also lost points following draws with Voluntari, Argeș, Steaua and FC Bihor.
But, with a success today, as I said, it can climb to 6th place, because it would advance on goal difference FC Voluntari, CS Afumați and CFC Argeș, all with 19 points at the moment, obtained, admittedly, in more or less matches, 12, 11 or 10.
3-1 in direct matches for FK Miercurea Ciuc. Only the home team prevailed in the previous meetings
In the direct matches so far, four in number, each time the home team prevailed. It was 1-0 for Ciuc in March 2021, 2-0 for Slatina in October 2022, 2-0 for Ciuc in March 2023 and 1-0 also for Ciuc in November 2023. So, the Harghitans have 3-1 in victories in the matches with the Oltenians.
In the current ranking, before the last match of the 12th stage, Robert Ilyeș’s team is in 1st place, detached, with 28 points in 10 matches, and Daniel Oprescu’s is in 10th place, with 16 collected points also in 10 games. Both had won one more match, the one against Viitorul Pandurii, but they were left without the three points after the Gorja band was excluded from the championship for two no-shows.
Ciucul and Slatina are almost equal in goal difference at the moment: 20-6 versus 18-6. Both have the second best defense after Steaua, who have conceded 4 goals in 12 matches. Ciucul, with 20 goals scored, has the best attack, now equaled by Metaloglobus, which, however, has one more match played.
