On Thursday, a presentation of the new flagship crossover Chery Tiggo 9 took place in Moscow, and on this day the company not only presented the car, but also announced the start of pre-orders for it. The company promises to start sales in December; in fact, the timing is not the best, given that many dealers will be holding holiday sales during this period, selling off 2024 cars. But, apparently, circumstances developed and Chery simply physically could not bring its flagship to our market earlier. Even during the event, brand representatives emphasized that the car presented for review was a pre-production sample. That is, the first batch of Tiggo 9 has not yet arrived to us.
The company’s new model is built on its own modular platform T2X. It is interesting that, despite the fact that the T2X is a Chery development, the first cars on it came to our market under the automaker’s sub-brands, we know them under the names Exeed RX and Jaecoo J8.
Using the new platform, the automaker made a roomy family crossover: length – 4,810 mm, width – 1,925 mm, height – 1,741 mm. Wheelbase – 2800 mm. Moreover, a lot of attention was paid to safety, so the car received an improved design of the spatial body frame. According to the developers, it is based on six crash-boxes with an enlarged Y-axis, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of absorbing kinetic energy in the front of the car by 25% compared to traditional mono solutions. The interior power cage is made of high-strength steel, which provides the necessary strength and effective energy absorption in the event of an impact. In addition, the B-pillar of the car is made using TRB (Tailor Rolled Blank) technology with a strength of 1500 MPa in combination with CBS blocks, which provides reliable protection for passengers.
And also Tiggo 9 is equipped with 10 airbags: dual front, side, side curtain airbags, as well as side for the second row, knee for the driver and central. At the same time, the side curtain airbag has a length of 2060 mm, offering up to 6 seconds of continuous protection in secondary collisions for front and rear passengers. The crossover has already been tested using the CNCAP method, according to the results of which it received 5 stars out of 5.
On the Russian market, the seven-seater Tiggo 9 crossover will be equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged petrol engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission (classic hydraulic automatic). The engine is an in-line four-cylinder with direct fuel injection into the cylinders, with a turbocharger and intercooling. Maximum engine power is 249 hp. (180 kW) at 5500 rpm, and produces a maximum torque of 375 Nm in the range of 1750-4000 rpm. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes the crossover 8.0 seconds. The model will only be available with a Torque-on-Demand all-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. As the company says, it is made in a single structural module with the rear differential, and the response time is 0.1 seconds. Several driving modes will be available to the user, between which you can conveniently switch using a washer on the central tunnel.
The company’s technical design director, Saidin Osmancevic, who previously worked with BMW and Volkswagen, had a hand in the appearance of the new crossover. The new product received the family features of the Tiggo series, but at the same time began to look more modern and brutal, largely thanks to the swollen body shapes, smoother lines and a large radiator grille. Our compatriots love such cars, so I think many will pay attention to the Tiggo 9.
In our market, the car will be presented in a seven-seater version, where the gallery is traditionally a place for children or very short adults. In the top-end configuration, the third-row seats fold automatically, and the right-hand seat of the second row automatically slides and raises, freeing up passage to the rear. The car has dual-zone climate control with air deflectors for all rows. An interesting thing worth noting is the presence of heating and ventilation not only for the front seats, but also for the second row of seats. Also, Tiggo 9 in Russia will receive a full package of warm options, including heated steering wheel, mirrors, windshield, and windshield washer nozzles.
For some reason, the manufacturer provides figures for luggage compartment capacity only with the second and third row seats folded; it is 2150 liters. According to information on the network, with the third row of seats in use, the trunk will be reduced to 200 liters, and if you do not use the gallery, then it will already be 717 liters. The tailgate, of course, is electrically driven and can be opened without contact.
In terms of materials and design elements, the new crossover is head and shoulders above current models. The main part of the seats is covered with genuine perforated leather, and you can choose black or brown seat color. All visible elements are made of soft plastic and artificial leather. New buttons for power windows and electric seat adjustments appeared in the cabin, and the overall interior was transformed. Now in the center of the front panel there is a huge 15.6-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, and the dashboard is represented by a 10.3-inch free-standing screen. The central tunnel houses a large platform for two smartphones, and the left one also has fast 50 W wireless charging with active cooling. The maximum configuration includes a Sony audio system with 14 speakers, two of which are located in the headrest of the driver’s seat. And finally, the manufacturer has made a lift in the front part of the seat cushion, so that a driver of almost any height and build can sit comfortably behind the wheel. By the way, both front seats are equipped with ten-point massage, and a lift-up ottoman is available for the passenger.
The car’s media system has now become similar to that in the new Exeed. It gets basic navigation from Yandex, so say goodbye to Turbo Dog, which is integrated into the system and appears not only on the central display, but also on the instrument panel and head-up display. Services from VK are also preinstalled here: music, news, messenger. Thus, the owner will immediately receive applications that are convenient and familiar to him without any shamanism or re-flashing. In addition to this multimedia, Tiggo 9 supports the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay platforms, both wired and wireless. The heart of the system is the Snapdragon 8155 processor, which is paired with 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB of permanent memory, so the speed of multimedia operation is not in question.

As I said above, the new Tiggo 9 should arrive in Russia in December this year, you can now book a car. Prices for the new product have not been announced, but we can assume that they will start at about 4 million rubles.
