INTERNATIONAL – Insane torrents of water. The south and east of Spain are affected by flash floods this Tuesday, October 29 due to torrential rains. The images shared by the media and Internet users are terrifying.

The raging waters particularly invaded the town of Letur, in the eastern province of Albacete, pushing cars into the streets, as images broadcast by Spanish television showed. There are also many impressive videos circulating on social media.

The Valencia region is also extremely affected, particularly the city of Chiva. National weather agency Aemet declared a red alert in the Valencia region and the second highest alert level in parts of Andalusia.

Emergency services, supported by drones, are searching for six people missing following flash floods that hit Letur, the central government representative in the Castilla-La Mancha region told Spanish public television TVE.

Pedro Sanchez calls for caution

Police in the town of L’Alcudia, in the eastern region of Valencia, said they were searching for a seventh person, a truck driver who had been missing since early this afternoon. During the night, emergency services said they found several bodies in the Valencia region.

Roads and high-speed rail links have been closed, according to authorities. Planes scheduled to land in Valencia were also diverted.

“I am following with concern the information on missing people and the damage caused by the storm in recent hours”wrote Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on X, inviting the population to follow the advice of the authorities. “Be very careful and avoid unnecessary travel”he added.
