According to the news channel N1 TV, dozens of people are still missing in the area of the town of Jablanica, about 70 kilometers from the capital Sarajevo. “There are several villages in the area that are still inaccessible, and we don’t know what we will find there,” said a spokesman for the mountain rescue service involved in the search.

At the same time, municipal elections are taking place in the country over the weekend, but the election commissions postponed them in the villages affected by the floods.

The floods followed an unprecedented summer drought that caused several rivers and lakes to dry up. However, it also affected agriculture and the water supply of urban areas throughout the Balkans and in several parts of Europe. Meteorologists have confirmed that extreme weather changes are occurring as a result of climate change.
