Corvinul managed to qualify for Round 2 of the Europa League, beating the Hungarian team Paksi FC in a double leg, with the overall score of 4-2, after 4-0 at Paks and 0-2 in Sibiu.
However, the general mood of the Hunedorens after the return game seemed to be not very encouraging. Despite the performance achieved in front of a superior opponent not only in value, but also in the share of the championship of which he is a part, at least on paper, and taking into account that before the result in the round no one thought that this performance would be achieved.
Coach Florin Maxim didn’t seem to know how to enjoy himself and charged his players for the way they handled this match in Sibiu.
Florin Maxim, dramatic after the failure in the return with Paksi: “I don’t know what we have left after this game”
At the end of the game lost with a score of 0-2in the shelter of that 4-0 in the round, but also of a return match in which the Hungarians gave emotions only at the end, Florin Maxim said at the press conference that his team showed “the worst since I’ve been training her!”
“It was a match as we expected, a loaded match, and we have to overcome it somehow, because… I can’t say that I’m not satisfied with this qualification, but the team looked the worst since I’ve been coaching it! We made an effort, we lost our tactical plan at times, we were chaotic after scoring the first goal, we had the ball and gave it to them. I expect from experienced players, and not only, a reaction. We knew it was going to be a tough game, because it’s very hard to defend when you have something to defend, and from this game I want to leave with… I don’t know, what we’re left with after this game, because we didn’t show at all how to can express the team”Florin Maxim said, quite angry.

The Hungarian guests asked how great the joy is that the Hunedorian team managed to win and qualify further against a superior opponent, as well as regarding the league in which they play.
Maxim seemed a little arrogant at first, recalling the overall score of the meeting. The coach also said that he does not see this difference so big, given that he considers his team to be newly promoted in the first league in Romania. Then, the “principal” of Corvinu took his speech to how he tries to make his players want more, also giving his example.

I believe in my players and their potential. I believe in this thing, maybe that’s why I’m a little… I don’t know, not that I’m happy, it’s normal to feel good, but now it’s too early for me. I sat and concentrated on the game. But, I don’t know, I have high expectations for what our team stands for. It is clear that I respected Paksi, I said that they are a very good team, that last season they won the Cup, they finished in 2nd place, they played good games, I watched a lot of their games, I knew that they are a running team very well, and today they behaved very well. But, know that the added value that the gentlemen are talking about (no – Hungarian journalists) I didn’t see him, only that we were at some moments… (no – was interrupted, being told that Paksi had a different quota because they play in the first league) And somehow, last season we were promoted to sports, so we can also say that we are in the first league. And that’s what I want boys to understand too, if they want more from life. I, for one, want to. I always have this question: Why is it that people who succeed or train at a higher level do it and I can’t do these things? I want the boys to understand as well, because as long as I have faith in them and I’ve brought in players where we really needed players, I have faith in the centre-backs (no – Manolache and Lica). I stopped at the two, plus we have Pop, a child from 2004″Maxim said.

With the qualification in his pocket, Florin Maxim now said about Paksi FC that he could not surprise him, because it is not a much superior team to Corvin. From his point of view, the Hungarian band was superior only in size, in strength.
“We, this match, with all due respect to Paksi, started like in our championship, with two juniors, with the goalkeeper from 2004 and with the midfielder Bradu, born in 2002, that is, somehow, I want to instill in them maybe a problem of my. I’m not afraid of anything, I don’t know my limits, nothing limits me, I want to believe. I want to believe about myself and my staff that I prepared the match well. They couldn’t surprise us, because they don’t have a superior technique. They had a waistline, a new superpower that defined them as a team. We remain with this qualification and the fact that we have to learn from this match.
I didn’t want to be disrespectful, that Paksi are not a technical team, or a good team, don’t get it wrong. Let’s take it a little like this: after the game, what did their coach say about us? That we won the duels, we were reactive, we were the team that was first on the ball. Today I was not. This is where, somehow, the difference was made. It’s just that we, in the round match, beat 4-0, and now we beat 2-0″the Corvinu coach also said about the two teams.
Asked about the late changes, Maxim spoke about the trust he places in the players and the reaction he expects from them
Maxim was also asked why he made the changes so late, after the 80th minute. It is known that he is a follower of substitutions, if he does not feel the need to, and this he repeated now.
He made the first substitutions in the 84th minute, after the Hungarians had opened the scoring. Then he made two more substitutions, in extra time, as time expired, as Paksi had scored a second time and Corvinul looked groggy at those moments.
“I was in the match, the score was 0-0. I’m not a fan of changes, just to make them, to please the players. My role is different in the team, to win, to produce results, because we play well for nothing and I thank 16 players who come in. If it’s a match when I don’t have to change, I don’t change. The boys are very well prepared and that’s what I try to instill in them somehow, to make them believe that here they have the chance to take advantage of the fact that I give them confidence to express themselves very well on the field. If you ask all of them, they were all on the team, but they didn’t have a chance to play, the coach didn’t push him, because he was good. Here, I give the boys chances and I believe that they can develop and succeed, as I believe, that’s what I want to believe. I left Brad, from a town near Deva, I left as a child, from the age of 14, to the national team. Just as I played at one level, in League 1, I also played in the national teams, I also played in the Europa League. I mean, just as I was able to develop and play at a certain level, so I want the players to believe and just show me what I show them, in turn. I put them on the field and they have to show me there what we establish and what we prepare in training”commented Maxim.

Corvinul became the first team from the second league in Romania that passes a round of a European competition and in Round 2 of the Europa League will meet HNK Rijeka, Croatia’s vice-champion and Cup finalist. The round leg takes place next Thursday, also in Sibiu, and Florin Maxim expects a completely different kind of match.
“100 percent the boys are happy for this qualification, but I don’t even know what to say about today’s match. Maybe tomorrow I will have other thoughts. Maybe I’m under the fresh impression of the match. It is clear that it will be another match with Rijeka. I also know who the boys will be up against. 100 percent it will be another match. 100 percent we will play again out of fear. We Romanians have it in our DNA to react better to fear or the fear of being laughed at. Today was the fear of the result, the fear of success, because we knew it would come. They were aware. (…)
