Economy. Food prices fell as usual this August, Statistics Sweden’s consumer price index shows. On an annual basis, prices rose by 1.4 percent compared to August last year, which is a significantly smaller price increase than the previous year.
The inflation rate, i.e. the change in the CPI from the same month the previous year, was 1.9 percent in August 2024. This is a larger decline than expected from July when it was 2.6 percent.
The rate of inflation according to KPIF, a measure that Sweden uses to calculate inflation without taking into account the households’ wide-ranging mortgages, was 1.2 percent in August. This is also a decrease from July, when it was 1.7 percent.
– Among the various product groups, prices for fish fell by 2.6 percent compared to July, while prices for coffee, tea and cocoa fell by 1.7 percent, says Caroline Neander, price statistician at Statistics Sweden.
