Max Biaggi surprises. He will no longer be alone on a motorbike. The champion, true centaur, al Corriere della Sera reveals that he has obtained an instructor’s diploma for an Olympic discipline: skiing. New career on the horizon? “For a year I didn’t say anything”he confides.
The 53-year-old athlete says about his recently obtained ski instructor diploma: “Requests have already arrivedthey want to know if I am available to teach immediately. It’s nice, but it was first of all a challenge with myself. I skied as a child, I had to stop to ride a motorbike: it was forbidden. I got back together years ago thanks to a Philip Morris event (sponsor in F1 and MotoGP ed.), in Madonna di Campiglio. Schumacher and Barrichello, myself and Carlos Checa participated. Then I changed teams and had to stop again, until ten years ago. But the passion was intact.”
He studied like crazy and trained with twenty-year-olds. Max confides: “Friends suggested I try, ‘you could do it’. They skied much better than me. Then the taste for the challenge kicked in. I remember the selections: 300 aspiring teachers. I showed up out of nowhere with my bib and passed the first three tests. A month of course with tests on the glacier in Val Senales, classroom lessons, methodologies and first aid. I had no idea that there were also oral examsif I had known it was so complicated I would have thought about it more. But I worked hard and this experience has given me a lot.”
The pilot then reveals: “A few days ago the school called me: ‘A Russian family would like you for five days’. Me: ‘Thanks but I don’t think I’m practicing at the moment.’ The first lesson will be for my children, Ines and Leon. It will be the most excitingbut they have been skiing for years and won’t have to learn much.”
And just talking about the children he had with Eleonora Pedron, now teenagers, Max confesses: “When I ran I was brave, with my children, however, I worry about everything. Sometimes too much. I don’t want them to crashor for example. For motorbikes and scooters we wait: there is time. I tell Leon that he turned 14, but Eventually I will have to give in. Luckily he is completely absorbed in tennis. He attended Riccardo Piatti’s academy in Bordighera, he would always play. On holiday he forced me to look for a field, as long as he studies and gets good grades it’s fine. Ines (15 years old, ed.) she does rhythmic gymnastics, she also sometimes accompanies me to the MotoGP races.”
