Before they join an engineering or master’s program at IMT Atlantique, the institution offers its future foreign students the opportunity to improve their French skills through a “French Summer School”. This summer’s session, which runs until August 22, welcomes 56 students from all over the world to the Nantes campus (Loire-Atlantique). Most of them are new arrivals at the school, and are preparing to start their studies in September in one of IMT Atlantique’s programs, in Rennes, Nantes or Brest.
But the school also notes the registration of some international students who have already completed a year of studies at the school, and even some “free electrons”, who are not registered in any training. “We welcome students who are beginners in French, up to those with a B2 level, and who are therefore already relatively independent,” explains Amélie Chutin, teacher of French as a foreign language (FLE) at IMT Atlantique, in charge of the Summer School.
Up to 1100 euros per month
Depending on whether or not the student is enrolled in one of the school’s courses, and depending on the course, the price of this summer school varies from 0 to 1100 euros, to which is added approximately 550 euros for student accommodation on campus. On the program for these four weeks of teaching: French classes, workshops, but also visits and excursions to practice French and discover French culture.
To provide these lessons, the school relies on Amélie Chutin, as well as five temporary FLE teachers. “One of the weeks is dedicated to engineering, continues the teacher. Students work as they would in school, through multicultural group projects.” A student from the school is also recruited each year to liven up the group’s evenings and weekends with sporting and cultural events.
