“For Stop” and “for Palestine”. The rally that marked one year since the eviction of Stop

One year after the closure of the Stop Shopping Center, a group of people gathered in front of the building’s facade this Wednesday in a gathering under the motto “We All Dream of Another Port”whose initials create the word “Stop”.

The demonstration started around 6 pm, but did not go as expected.

The concentration intended mark the Stop eviction date, but not only. Also served to show solidarity with Palestine, since, this Wednesday at the same time in the United States, thousands of protesters created a red line around the Capitol, against Netanyahu’s speech. Therefore, the concentration promoted by “Stop Demonstrate” intended to “form a red line and raise the Palestinian and Queer flags” on the facade of the Stop “against Netanyahu.”

At the door of STOP, on a paper signed by the administration it was written: “No demonstration or event activity is authorized within the private space of CCSTOP”

Entry into space was only allowed to usufructuaries of the space, as tenants or shopkeepers. However, a group of people formed in front of the building, but the reasons why they were there varied.

For Miguel Nabuco, who was there, the protest was about Stop. “It’s more about the fact that, recently, rents have increased a lot inside Stop rooms,” he said. to the Renaissance. Noa Sousa, another protester at the scene, said she was there “mainly to force the arrest of the Israeli president”. “I am here fighting for Palestine, I am not fighting for the stop in any way”, added.

Inês Carneiro was already there to support both causes “that merge”. “I am here for both as Popular Resistance”, he clarified.

One year after the eviction at the Stop Shopping Center, the administration has changed, having now represented the owners there, and the musicians are back to rehearsals. Missing is the court decision regarding an emergency exit to a neighboring plot of land.
