The electric car sales they are struggling to take off in Europe and despite the growth recorded in September 2024, with 213,443 units for a +13.9% compared to the same month of 2023, the annual final figure remains in decline. The transition to mobility on tap remains – very – gradual, with more and more motorists turning to the purchase of hybrid models. Which last month achieved a historic record.
In fact, for the first time hybrid cars were the best-selling in Europe, clearly surpassing petrol cars, historically queens of the market.
Generalized phenomenon
The numbers speak clearly: a September 2024 in Europe – also calculating the EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) and the United Kingdom – the hybrid cars 337,168 were registered, with a growth of 12.3% compared to 335,842 in September 2023. On the other hand, petrol models fell by 18.8%, from 450,491 to 329,207 units.
More than 121 thousand pieces were “lost”, thanks to the general decline in the car market in Europe (-4.2% in the last month), but only as regards non-electrified fuel systems. Or almost. If indeed electric and hybrid (which contains mild hybrid and full hybrid) rise, the plug-in loses share with -11.7%, as does the dieselnow in constant decline with September 2024 closing at 93,304 units and -23.8% compared to the same month of 2023.
