Russia has fired an intercontinental robot at Ukraine, Kyiv says. If the information is confirmed, it will be the first time during the course of the war that a robot of that kind has been used.

The attack must have taken place during the night and was aimed at the large city of Dnipro in central Ukraine, reports The Kyiv Independent newspaper.

The intercontinental robot was launched, according to Ukrainian data, from Astrakhan, nearly 100 miles from Dnipro, near the Caspian Sea in southern Russia.

According to Ukraine’s air defense, a hypersonic robot of the Russian-developed type Kinzal and several cruise robots were also used in the attack.

Several shot down

All the robots except the Intercontinental should have been launched from Russian bombers. Six of the Kinzjal robots are said to have been shot down by anti-aircraft fire before reaching their targets.

According to the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, Serhij Lysak, at least two people have been injured in the attack. Several buildings are said to have also been damaged.

Russia has not commented on the attack. At a press conference in Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refers a question about the intercontinental robot to the Defense Ministry.

Can carry nuclear weapons

At the same time, Peskov says that the United States is to blame for the escalation that is taking place.

– The outgoing government’s policy is very irresponsible and continues to add fuel to the fire, he claims.

An intercontinental ballistic missile has a range of at least 5,500 kilometers. It is primarily developed to be able to carry nuclear weapons over long distances, but the one that is said to have been fired during the night was armed with something else.

– Russia takes a responsible position to prevent a nuclear conflict, says Peskov during Thursday’s press conference.
