Ford has patented a system that will snitch on speeding drivers to the police

Ford has been granted a patent that would measure the speed of a car using cameras and sensors, and then report violations to the police, it says Top Gear.

The patent states that the system will record the driving speed, and if it is determined that the driver is driving over the limit, the system will use cameras and sensors to record the vehicle’s identification features, such as license plates, model, color, body damage, sticker, accessories …

The photos and information will then, as described in the patent, be sent to additional connected surveillance devices and/or a police car or unit en route. At that moment, the police car would receive instructions about the speeding car on the dashboard screen.

It also said the technology, called Systems and Methods for the Detection of Speeding Violations, could also be used to record other traffic offences.

The patent details how the technology could be used in manual and autonomous cars, but so far there has been no confirmation from Ford that the technology has already been integrated into any vehicles.
