The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Tuesday that
Ford is recalling a total of 20,484 hybrid crossover SUVs.
The problem is caused by a manufacturing defect in some cells of the high-voltage battery, which can lead to an internal short circuit and battery failure.
As part of the recall, Ford dealerships will perform a software update of the battery energy control module free of charge. If necessary, the entire high-voltage battery pack will also be replaced free of charge, reads the announcement.
The recall affects the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the Ford Escape, as well as the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of Lincoln’s luxury Corsair model. The affected vehicles are selected from examples manufactured after the 2020 model year, up to and including the 2024 models.
