Il Ford Ranger PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), announced a year ago by the American company, makes its global debut all’IAA Transportation 2024 di Hannover. For Ford, the Ranger PHEV represents a further step towards a more sustainable future, combining the benefits of an electric motor with the proven performance of a petrol engine.
A piece that was missing from the Oval’s line-up and, all in all, a type of engine still little used in the segment. A bet by Ford which, after having electrified its full-size pick-ups such as the F-150, is attempting, for Europe, the hybrid route on 1 ton. The Ranger PHEV will be produced in Silverton, South Africa, the launch is scheduled for 2025 and will mark a step forward in the offer of engines for customers looking for a pick-up medium sized.
The internal combustion engine is 2.3 petrol
Il pick-up combines an electric motor with Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and 10-speed automatic transmission with a 75kW electric motor and 11.8kWh battery (usable), unlike what Ford Pro used on its Transit Custom that is the combination with the 2.5 already seen on the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid.

The result is 690Nm of torque – the highest ever in a production Ranger – and at 279PS, the PHEV variant offers more power than the Ranger’s 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel. A new modular hybrid powertrain integrates the Ranger PHEV’s electric motor into the clutch housing, enabling hybrid driving. The battery charges in under four hours using a 16-amp single-phase charger to deliver a target range of over 45 km in electric-only mode.

The traction battery is housed between specially designed chassis rails.

Ford engineers also have revised suspension calibration for optimum comfort and confident performance on and off-road, taking into account the Ranger PHEV’s unique chassis and weight distribution. Where available, the Ford Pro Home Charging system will allow owners to schedule charging during cheaper overnight fares and Ford expects the hybrid powertrain to deliver fuel savings over the Ranger’s high-displacement V6 diesel option.
Pro Power Onboard
Distinctive feature of the Ranger PHEV is the system Ford Pro Power Onboard. This system allows you to use battery energy to power power tools or devices while working. Thanks to the Interior and cargo floor sockets It is possible to supply power from the battery, eliminating the need for noisy and bulky generators.
