Check out Bison Futé’s traffic forecast for this summer holiday weekend, from Friday 2 to Monday 5 August 2024.
This weekend will be marked by new traffic disruptions on French roads: discover Bison Futé’s traffic forecasts for the weekend of August 2, 2024.
A holiday weekend on the French roads
The upcoming weekend will be marked by the crisscrossing of “Juillettistes” and “Augustiens” marking the start of the fifth week of the summer 2024 school holidays, the departures of which will follow one another in the coming weeks. As usual, significant travel is therefore to be expected on all the country’s major roads, both in the direction of departures and in the direction of returns.
This will therefore be an opportunity for many motorists to take to the road during this weekend, with significant migratory flows expected on the country’s main roads. Traffic will be heavy on most major routes, mainly on motorways from the north of the country towards the south or coastal regions. Traffic will be difficult throughout the period in the Rhone Valley and along the Mediterranean in both directions. In particular, on Saturday 3 August, traffic is expected to be extremely difficult on all of the country’s main roads.
There will therefore be many travellers on the roads of France, if we are to believe the forecasts of smart one : the little Indian road traffic specialist predicts that the first difficulties will arise as early as Friday, August 2, 2024.
Traffic conditions in detail
In fact, the Friday August 2, 2024 will be a very difficult day, with classified traffic ORANGE at the national level in the direction of departures, and ORANGE at the national level and ROUGE on the Mediterranean Arc, in the return direction.
In the direction of departures, traffic will be difficult throughout the territory throughout the day. Slowdowns will be observed on the roads serving the North-Eastern regions (A2), towards Spain via Bordeaux (A10, A63) and Narbonne (A9), as well as towards the South (A6, A7, A8, A50). Crossing the Massif-Central will also be complicated (A71 and A75). In Île-de-France, traffic will be heavy from the end of the morning towards the various toll barriers, particularly on the A6 and A10 motorways. It will be reinforced in the middle of the afternoon by the flow of work-home journeys and weekend departures, which are still numerous during this period. Traffic will remain heavy in the direction of departures until the middle of the evening.
In the return direction, traffic will be difficult at the national level and very difficult around the Mediterranean Arc. The roads coming from the south of the country (A7, A8, A9, A63) will be heavily used from the beginning of the afternoon until mid-evening. In Île-de-France, without reaching peaks, some returns may be recorded, particularly on the A10 motorway, between the beginning and the end of the afternoon. Nevertheless, the traffic difficulties generated by these returns, added to those inherent to travel during the Olympic Games, could make traffic difficult.
The Saturday August 3, 2024 will also be an extremely difficult day, with classified traffic NOIR at the national level in the direction of departures, and ORANGE at the national level and ROUGE in Île-de-France and on the Mediterranean Arc, in the return direction.
In the direction of departures, traffic will be extremely difficult at the national level. From early morning until late evening, the roads serving the coastal and border regions of the country as well as the various holiday resorts will be very busy. The A7, A8, A9, A10, A61, A63 and A75 motorways will accommodate an exceptional number of vehicles. Access to Italy via the Mont Blanc tunnel will be very difficult between mid-morning and early afternoon. In Île-de-France, continuing on Friday, traffic will be heavy from mid-night on the A6B and A10 motorways, which could experience their first slowdowns. These difficulties will increase significantly, reaching their peak towards the end of the morning. From then on, they should gradually decrease and end in the early afternoon.
In the return direction, traffic will be difficult at the national level, and very difficult in Île-de-France and around the Mediterranean Arc. The roads coming from the south of the country (A7, A8, A9, A75) will be very heavily used throughout the day, from morning to evening. In Île-de-France, the expected flow rates at the various toll barriers will be relatively high. However, the traffic difficulties generated by these returns should be accentuated by travel related to the Olympic Games.
The Sunday August 4, 2024 will be a very difficult day, with classified traffic VERT at the national level and ROUGE in Île-de-France and in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the direction of departures, and ORANGE at the national level and ROUGE in Île-de-France, in the return direction.
In the direction of departures, traffic will be very difficult in Île-de-France and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The roads running through these two regions will be heavily used from morning to evening, particularly the A7 and A10 motorways which will experience very heavy traffic. In Île-de-France, traffic difficulties could appear between the end of the morning and the beginning of the afternoon, they will be more or less significant depending on the sector.
In the return direction, traffic will be difficult at the national level and very difficult in Île-de-France. The A7 and A10 motorways will experience very heavy traffic from early afternoon until the end of the day. In Île-de-France, traffic expected at the various toll barriers on the A10 and A6 motorways will be relatively heavy. More or less significant traffic difficulties could be recorded depending on the sector between mid-afternoon and late evening.
The Monday August 5, 2024 will be a very difficult day, with classified traffic ORANGE at the national level and ROUGE on the Mediterranean Arc, in the direction of departures, and ORANGE at the national level in the sense of returns.
In the direction of departures, traffic will be difficult at the national level and very difficult around the Mediterranean Arc. Thus, many users will head towards the southern regions of the country. The A7 and A9 motorways will be very heavily used from mid-morning to the end of the day. Traffic conditions will also be difficult on the routes leading to Spain (A63) and Italy (Mont Blanc Tunnel). In Île-de-France, the difficulties encountered will mainly be linked to travel generated by the Olympic Games.
In the return direction, traffic will be difficult at the national level. The main roads of the country will be heavily used throughout the territory from late morning until evening, from the North from Belgium (A2) to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (A7, A50, A52), via Normandy (A13). Access to France from Italy (A8 and Mont-Blanc Tunnel) will be difficult throughout the afternoon, and until the evening. In Île-de-France, as for the departure direction, most of the traffic difficulties will be generated by the travel inherent to the Olympic Games.
