Forget the keys! Aqara introduced the practical smart lock U300

Aqara has introduced its latest addition to the family of smart locks. The U300 model is intended for doors with a handle or ball, which do not have a separate lock. A few weeks ago we tested the Aqara U200 lock, which is intended for doors with a lock, the new version U300 represents a somewhat more complex solution.

Aqara Smart Lock U300: Key Features and Technologies

The Aqara U300 boasts several interesting features. One of the main strengths is the Apple Home Key supportwhich allows unlocking with an iPhone or Apple Watch. Users of iOS devices can simply hold their phone or watch to the lock and the door will unlock, which is unfortunately not yet possible with Android, and it is a question whether Google will ever respond to Apple’s trick.

The lock is equipped with a fingerprint reader, you can also unlock the door using a PIN code, including one-time and recurring variants. There is also support for NFC cards and a mechanical key in case of emergency.

An important feature is the implementation of Thread and Matter technologieswhich ensure compatibility with various smart home ecosystems, so the lock can be easily integrated into Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and now also Home Assistant, as Aqara has finally become friends with it.

The lock is also equipped with an automatic locking function and the so-called Passage Mode, which allows free passage without the need for unlocking – useful, for example, when organizing house parties or moving.

Of course, the Aqara U300 meets IPX4 certification and is able to operate in temperatures from -30°C to 55°C. Thanks to Thread, it should last up to 10 months on a single charge, you charge it via the standard USB-C port.

Easy installation and compatibility

The U300 lock replaces the conventional handle/ball. The manufacturer claims that the installation is easy and the door does not need to be modified in any way. For full use of all functions, Aqara recommends the use of the Hub M3 hub, which will allow remote access and advanced automation.

Price and availability

The Aqara U300 lock is now available in the US for a price 199 dollars, i.e. approximately 4,600 crowns without tax. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet informed about availability on global markets.
