Former BVB star agrees with new club

Former BVB star Thomas Meunier caused a stir this week with his unilateral resignation from Turkish first division club Trabzonspor. After Trabzon’s president Ertugrul Dogan had already announced legal action, the right-back has now apparently found a new club.

At least that’s what the French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” reported on Friday. The former Borussia Dortmund defender is said to have reached an agreement with OSC Lille and would thus return to the French Ligue 1 after four years.

Between 2016 and 2020, Meunier had already played 84 times in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain and celebrated three championships.

Immediately before the expiry of a unilateral transfer deadline, Meunier had handed in his resignation from Trabzonspor at the end of the week, apparently citing family reasons. His decision was met with great incomprehension by club president Dogan, who has already announced in the media that he intends to take legal action against Meunier’s resignation.

Meunier played 56 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund

The 66-time Belgian international moved to the Turkish SüperLig in February after he was no longer given a chance to play at Borussia Dortmund. He had previously been under contract with BVB for three and a half years and played 56 Bundesliga games for the Black and Yellows.

Meunier is now set to sign a multi-year contract in Lille. Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri reported a two-year contract until 2026 for the right-back at LOSC, who was recently eliminated by France in the round of 16 with the Belgian national team at the European Championships in Germany. However, Meunier did not play at the European Championships.
