One named Saiful Islam was seriously injured in the attack on August 4 at Newmarket intersection of the city. He later died while undergoing treatment.
The court remanded MA Latif, former Member of Parliament of Bandar-Patenga, for two days in the case filed in this incident. Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam granted his remand on Sunday.
Earlier, the police applied for 10 days remand of MA Latif. City Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Mofiz Uddin confirmed this information.
According to the court sources, the attack on the student crowd took place during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 4. During this time many people including Saiful Islam were injured.
Saiful Islam was first taken to Chamek Hospital and later to Dhaka. He died on September 30 at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital. In this incident, a plaintiff named Moin Uddin filed a case in Kotwali police station.
