A court in the South Korean city of Suwon has sentenced a former senior researcher at Samsung Display to six years in prison for leaking information about OLED screen production to China.
The man (his name is not disclosed) worked at Samsung Display for more than 10 years and was involved in developing OLED screens. After leaving the company, he founded his own company and lured other Samsung Display employees, mostly former subordinates, there.
Together, they used Samsung Display’s secret OLED screen manufacturing data to create similar technology, which they then attempted to sell to Chinese companies. This all happened between 2018 and 2020.
The stolen information is valued at $24.5 million.
The accused has misused technology that the company has invested heavily in developing over a long period of time, which is deeply condemnable.
