Former SB chief Monirul was seen in Delhi’s supershop

Expatriate Bangladeshi investigative journalist Zulkarnain Sayer has claimed that Monirul Islam, the former head of Bangladesh Police’s Special Branch (SB), has been spotted in New Delhi, India.

He said this in a Facebook post on Sunday night.

Zulkarnain Sayer claimed on Facebook that Monirul Islam was seen in a grocery supershop in New Delhi, India. Zulkarnain wrote in the post, Monirul Islam’s position has been confirmed by very reliable sources.

Recently, Monirul Islam told the media that he was in the country, he is in the country. Will stay in the country in the future.

More than 12 cases of murder and attempted murder have been registered against Monirul Islam in different police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The former head of the special branch of the police has been accused of taking Tk 25 crore from Sheikh Hasina’s government and keeping it in his room on August 3 for the expenses of suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement. But before that money was distributed, the government collapsed in a student uprising on August 5. Monirul did not go to office from that day. But some SB officials knew about the existence of Tk 25 crores in his room. Later some SB officials took that money to themselves.

A three-member committee headed by DIG Golam Kibria of Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN) was formed from the police headquarters to investigate the incident of withdrawal of Tk 25 crore.

On March 14, 2021, Monirul Islam was transferred from the head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the police to the head of the SB. In 1995, Monirul joined the Bangladesh Police as an ASP through the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. He served 9 years in the intelligence branch and two years in the special branch. Apart from this, he was one of the founding officers of CTTC.

During the Awami League government, Monirul received the Bangladesh Police Medal and the President’s Police Medal.
