Former talent moves to the 2nd Bundesliga

After his contract with VfB Stuttgart was not renewed, Lilian Egloff has found a new club. The midfielder has signed with Karlsruher SC.

The second division club announced this on Monday.

“With Lilian Egloff we are getting a highly talented offensive player who has already played a number of games at Bundesliga level. The coaching team and the club will help Lilian to consistently make use of his excellent technical and footballing skills in the future. He will then be an asset and an additional option for our squad,” said Sebastian Freis, Head of Professionals.

Egloff himself emphasized: “I want to take the next step in my career at KSC and repay the trust of those in charge with good performances. KSC has had a great start to the second division season and I’m looking forward to being able to do my part in the future.”

Egloff, born in Heilbronn, joined VfB Stuttgart’s youth performance center at the age of ten. At just 16, the attacking midfielder was promoted to the Swabian U19 team. In 2019, he won the A-Juniors Cup with the team.

In the 2019/20 season, Lilian Egloff was used for the first time by the professionals, first in the DFB Cup and then in the 2nd Bundesliga. When he came of age, the youngster signed a professional contract that expired at the end of June 2024.

The right-footer made 21 appearances in the German top flight, but was only in the Stuttgart starting eleven three times. Egloff also had a tough time under head coach Sebastian Hoeneß. Last season he made just six appearances.

Egloff dropped from VfB Stuttgart

Last November, the talented player tore the lateral ligament in his knee, which meant he was out until the end of January. Hoeneß had previously confirmed that he was “definitely not far away” from further tests in the first team.

“He has to stick with it. He has to do exactly what he is doing right now to be in good shape when he comes in,” Hoeneß said at the time.

But after the injury, Egloff did not play a single game for VfB. His expiring contract was therefore not renewed.
