As a candidate for vice president of the United States, Republican Senator JD Vance will run alongside Donald Trump in the November elections.
Before Vance Trump’s entry into high-level politics he sharply criticized, but later became his loud defender. The ex-president made his choice today he announced on his social network Truth Social, the Republican Party shortly thereafter nominated Trump as its presidential candidate at the caucus and subsequently endorsed Vance as its vice presidential candidate. Current President Joe Biden criticized the selection, saying Vance is a Trump clone.
“After much thought and thought … I have decided that the best person to succeed as Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance from the great state of Ohio,” Trump said.
The former head of the White House thus chose a relatively young electoral partner: Vance is 39 years old, which is exactly half of Trump’s age. In top politics he is relatively inexperienced, because he was elected to the Senate for the first time in 2022 and had not previously held any elected position. But after entering Congress, he quickly became one of the faces of the new wing of the Republican Party, which follows Trump’s example.
His choice as a vice presidential running mate has been speculated for months, with media reports in recent weeks saying Trump was choosing between Senators Vance and Mark Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. According to the AP agency, Vance is apparently the most “ideologically aligned” with the presidential candidate. At his age, he also brings “the contrast of the millennial to the two older men at the head of the female candidates” of the two main political parties in the US – that is, Trump and Democratic President Biden.
Speaking at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington shortly before flying to Nevada for a series of campaign events, President Biden said that Vance is Trump’s “clone”. “I don’t see any difference,” Biden was quoted as saying by the AP.
Biden’s staff had previously criticized Vance as someone who would serve Trump even if it meant “breaking the law.” Declaration campaign recalls that Trump’s first-term vice president, Mike Pence, refused to back an effort to block Trump’s defeat after the last presidential election, and says Vance would do it. She leans on his expressionthat he would not recognize the result of the regular election in Pence’s position.
The senator goes by the name JD Vance, his full name is James David Vance. He comes from a humble background, growing up in the city of Middletown in southwestern Ohio. He described his difficult childhood, when he was raised primarily by his maternal grandparents, in the 2016 book Hillbilly Elegy, which made him famous in the US and abroad. At the same time, it was referred to as one of the books that explained Trump’s success in the then-presidential elections.
But Vance himself was not a Trump fan eight years ago. In interviews at the time, he referred to himself as someone who would “never” support Trump, and described her as an “idiot” or a person unfit for the presidency. But after entering politics, he said he was wrong about Trump.
“I didn’t think he would be a good president,” he said recently in an interview with Fox News. “He was a great president. And that’s one of the reasons I’m working so hard to get him a second term,” he added.
In his statement, Trump recalled that Vance previously served in the Marine Corps and graduated from Yale University with a law degree. “As Vice President, JD will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand by our troops, and do whatever it takes to help me make America great again,” the post continued. In it, Trump also congratulated Vance’s wife, Usha, with whom the senator has three children.
According to diary The Wall Street Journal credits his rise in the Republican Party to his “unmatched ability to articulate the principles of the new conservative movement.” This is based on strict border control, the introduction of tariffs, significant economic interventions by the state and the withdrawal of the US from the world stage, the newspaper writes. In Congress, Vance is one of the leaders of the resistance to the arming of Ukraine, and the year before last, during the Russian invasion, he declared that he “doesn’t care at all” what happens to the invaded country.
