Formlabs koupil Micronics, a Wisconsin-based 3D printing company, to continue advancing affordable SLS 3D printing. Following the acquisition, Micronics’ founders and team will join Formlabs in a shared mission to make SLS 3D printing accessible to product designers, engineers, innovators and other creators worldwide, the companies said.
Micronics is a new 3D printing company that announced its first desktop SLS 3D printer on Kickstarter in June 2024 Micron. The printer is designed to deliver the power and precision of SLS 3D printing technology in a compact design for detailed prototypes and durable end-use products. Formlabs has attracted Micronics with its joint focus on affordable 3D printing, which will allow Formlabs to accelerate its SLS 3D printing capabilities.
Micronics will now complement the SLS Formlabs team, bringing new tools and solutions that Formlabs says will enable designers and innovators to take risks in designing and printing robust end-use parts. This collaborative effort will expand access to 3D printing and make the technology available to product users seeking the benefits of print quality and ease of use.
After the acquisition closes, Micronics’ Kickstarter backers will be refunded and will receive a credit toward any Formlabs 3D printer for use now or in the future.
