Formula 1 | “Bullshit!” Red Bull mechanic slaps down Verstappen theory

Since the Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull has lost its dominance in Formula 1. Long-time F1 reporter Peter Windsor has now expressed the theory that this could have something to do with necessary modifications to the RB20’s braking system. However, a responsible mechanic for the team dismissed this theory as a myth.

Peter Windsor has been a well-known face in the Formula 1 pit lane for years and, with well over 200,000 followers on social networks and on the video platform YouTube, is one of the most widely followed journalists in the premier class.

A theory that Windsor shared on Twitter/X on Thursday received a lot of attention. There he suggested that Verstappen’s problems with the RB20 could be related to a braking system that had been modified for the Miami Grand Prix – the race that, in retrospect, was the beginning of the end of Red Bull’s great dominance.

“This is bullshit…not surprising”

Verstappen’s mechanic Calum Nicholas, however, dismissed Windsor’s theory and responded to the journalist’s post with clear words. “Yeah, that’s bullshit… not surprising.” When asked by a user why he was so sure, Nicholas calmly replied: “I built the car for the last 14 races, he (Windsor) didn’t.”

Ultimately, he felt the urge to speak out on the matter “because people should really start to show the other teams the appreciation they deserve for their work and their efforts to catch up. Not everything has to be a big conspiracy theory,” Nicholas wrote, adding that the main reason for Red Bull’s loss of dominance is not its own weakness, but simply the newly gained quality of its competitors.
