Formula 1 | Helmut Marko confirms Red Bull bang

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko confirmed for the first time before the Grand Prix in Zandvoort that there will be changes in the line-up of the two in-house Formula 1 teams for the 2025 season. This means that one of the four currently employed drivers will lose his place.

Young driver Liam Lawson is responsible for this. “He will definitely be in one of our cars next year,” Marko told the “Kleine Zeitung”, confirming what he had already hinted at during the summer break.

Shortly before the break, the man from Graz explained that there were many leading figures in the Red Bull management team who were pushing for Lawson’s promotion. During the break, it was apparently decided that the 22-year-old New Zealander would be given a chance.

Marko digs into the Pérez wound

The big question is: where? Max Verstappen is firmly in the saddle at Red Bull, Yuki Tsunoda at the Racing Bulls. This means that only Sergio Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo are possible replacements.

Marko hinted that it could actually affect the Mexican. “If Checo can consistently maintain his normal speed, we’ll be happy. But he always has these fluctuations somewhere, whether in qualifying or a certain part of the race. The consistency isn’t there, that’s the problem,” he made clear.

When asked what would happen to Pérez if his performance in the coming races did not improve as hoped, Marko said meaningfully: “Let’s just take a look at that for now.”

Daniel Ricciardo is now more nervous than ever. His performances are not living up to expectations either. But he is under a little less pressure at the Racing Bulls than Pérez in the A team. The Australian also has a powerful advocate on his side in Christian Horner.

But after Marko’s statements, he can no longer be completely sure.
