One competitor less: Two-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou has unequivocally ruled out a move to the future Formula 1 team Audi. For Mick Schumacher, this is definitely good news.
In recent weeks, Palou’s name has been repeatedly linked with a move to Sauber/Audi. However, the rumors that there had even been contact between the Spaniard and the Formula 1 racing team were ultimately completely unfounded.
“It’s all fake. I know you can’t take my word for it, but I promise: It’s all fake,” the IndyCar driver assured in an interview with “IndyStar”.
He had “no contact” with Audi: “Zero!” emphasized the 27-year-old, who was also considered for the Formula 1 racing team because his current driver contract in the IndyCar series contains an exit clause that would allow him to move to the premier class.
Palou does not want to go to Formula 1
He doesn’t want to waste too many words on the subject of Formula 1, “but I’m not trying to go there (to Formula 1). I tried. I got a little taste. It was fun and I learned, but it didn’t work out. That doesn’t bother me,” said Palou, who was under contract with McLaren for a while but fled there and ended up in the US racing series.
It’s not as if he reads the rumors about himself in Europe and then picks up the phone and calls Audi to offer himself, the Spaniard emphasized. He is doing well in the IndyCar series, said Palou.
With the Spaniard’s name, another one is leaving the list of candidates for the future Audi racing team. Valtteri Bottas is currently the big favorite for the cockpit. But Guanyu Zhou and Mick Schumacher are also considered to have a chance.
