Four local governments, Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju City, and Damyang-gun and Jangseong-gun in Jeollanam-do, came together to find ways to cooperate for win-win development in the Gwangju and northern Jeollanam-do regions.

According to Gwangju Buk-gu on the 15th, the ‘8th regular meeting of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Northern Area Coexistence Development Council’ was held at the Gwangsan-gu Office the previous day.

At the regular meeting on this day, an in-depth discussion was held on the direction of sustainable coexistence development with the attendance of Buk-gu District Mayor Moon In, chairman of the council, Gwangsan-gu District Mayor Park Byeong-gyu, Jangseong-gun Mayor Kim Han-jong, and Damyang Deputy Governor Jeong Gwang-seon.

The main agenda items were ▲creation of local gardens in Gwangju and Damyang ▲activation of the hometown love donation system ▲expansion and paving construction of National Highway No. 24 (Jangseong Jinwon ~ Damyang Daejeon).

In particular, the creation of the Gwangju-Damyang local garden is an agenda to revitalize a large-scale natural ecological section of 280,000㎡ from Wolsanbo in Buk-gu to Yeongsan Bridge in Damyang-gun through cooperation between the two local governments. If the discussion becomes a reality, it will be the first local garden in the country for cooperation between local governments and will expand regional boundaries. It is expected that this will be an example of collaboration in ecotourism resource development.

Buk-gu Mayor Moon In said, “At this meeting, not only institutional cooperation was held, but also realistic discussions directly related to the lives of residents, such as local gardens and improvement of transportation and safety infrastructure.” He added, “We will continue to discover cooperation models that can achieve sustainable regional development through the council.” “I will do it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Northern Region Win-Win Development Council is an administrative council formed in 2019 between Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju and Damyang-gun and Jangseong-gun in Jeollanam-do to promote regional win-win development by promoting cooperation and exchange in various fields. So far, major issues such as the entry into Jangseong KTX, the second relocation of public institutions to regional areas, and the high-tech district 3 development project have been discussed and successful joint cooperation and response have been achieved.
