France expels Osama bin Laden’s artist son

Omar bin Laden, who is the son of the slain al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, has been asked to leave France.

This was stated by the French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, on Tuesday.

43-year-old Omar bin Laden was born in Saudi Arabia, but has also lived in Sudan and Afghanistan. He left his father when he was 19 years old and later settled in Normandy in northern France and began to paint.

According to Retailleau, he lived here in the department of Orne with a British wife.

But according to France’s interior minister, Omar bin Laden “shared posts advocating terrorism” on social media in 2023, and he is therefore deported.

– The courts have confirmed the legality of this decision, which was taken on the basis of national security interests, says Retailleau.

The interior minister also says he has signed a ban on Omar bin Laden “returning to France for any reason”.

It received a lot of media attention when it was confirmed in 2007 that Omar bin Laden married British woman Jane Felix-Browne.

Felix-Browne was a grandmother, had been divorced five times and is over two decades older than Omar bin Laden.

After getting married, she took the name Zaina Mohammed.

Omar bin Laden tried to be allowed to live in Britain, but was refused by British authorities.

Omar bin Laden’s father, Osama bin Laden, was killed by US commandos in Pakistan in May 2011.

The former al-Qaeda leader, who orchestrated the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, is believed to have fathered more than 20 children.
