The French government and one of the country’s largest technology multinationals, Atos, sat down at the negotiating table again regarding the state takeover of certain divisions of the private company. The company announced on Monday that the negotiations mainly concern the Advanced Computing division, which develops and operates supercomputers, which can change hands at a company value of 500 million euros.
Atos is one of the leading technology suppliers of the local government, the company operates a number of strategic communication infrastructures and solutions for, among others, the French army and professional services, and also operates the country’s largest supercomputers.
Machine recruiting: you may not like it
AI has become irreversibly integrated into the recruitment process.
At the same time, the former European tech pioneer has recently been going through a serious financial crisis, which led directly to the solution that the French state will provide the company with some kind of lifeline.
According to the company, the parties must sign the purchase agreement by the end of next May, when the state’s exclusive bidding period expires. On behalf of the French government, Antoine Armand stated in connection with the potential deal that France has a fundamental interest in ensuring the operation of those strategic industrial activities – even as a shareholder – that serve the country’s sovereignty.
Advanced Computing is one of Atos’ cyber security branch, BDS, consisting of three members (Advanced Computing, Critical Systems, Cyber Products). The department employs around four thousand people in the country, and its annual sales revenue exceeds 900 million euros.
At the beginning of the month, the Finance Committee of the French Parliament gave its thumbs up to the partial nationalization of Atos.
