If you are among the fans of mobile games, you should pay attention and think carefully about what you download to your mobile phone. It was fake mobile games that were ranked among the main mobile threats on Czech Android phones in October.
These applications often spread the Andreed adware and the Agent.FBE trojan horse, which aim to redirect users to dangerous websites or exploit them for malicious activities such as fraudulent investing. This results from regular analysis of detection data by ESET.
Fake games are spreading in the Czech Republic
“Based on the latest analyses, we can say that the Czech Republic has been flooded with cracked versions of games that contain various types of cyber threats. At this point, they have completely displaced other malware, including the Cerberus banking trojan.” stated Martin Jirkal, head of the analytical team at the Prague branch of ESET.
Among the fake versions of mobile games we would find various genres. Andreed adware was most frequently detected in the racing-themed game Car Parking Multiplayer. The Agent.FBE Trojan, on the other hand, was spread through adventure, battle and strategy games, with the attackers also exploiting a modified version of the popular platform game Geometry Dash.
Children are also at risk
Although the tactics used by these attackers may seem repetitive and predictable, they are still highly effective. According to experts, attackers use game applications not only to spread malicious software, but also less serious code, relying on the growing popularity of mobile games in the period before the end of the year. It targets users of all ages, including children, who increasingly seek entertainment in the digital environment.
Fake AI will rob you of money
In addition to fake games, cybercriminals also exploited the popularity of artificial intelligence tools in October and spread the malicious code FakeApp.AFZ under the fake application Super AI – Powered by ChatGPT, aimed at the so-called cryptoscam. This app entices users with investment opportunities. It exploits a well-known brand to build trust, and even allows users to recover small amounts at first before depriving them of larger investments.
Security experts generally warn against blindly trusting such services and recommend using “common sense”. It always pays to be healthy suspicious and check all information. Another measure should be the use of reliable security software that can also protect against the threats of adware or Trojan horses.
