The tragic consequences of the DANA that has devastated Valencia and that at the moment -according to the latest official estimates- has produced a balance of 213 deaths has unleashed friction between different public administration entities. The most notorious have been carried out by the central and regional governments, with cross accusations about management responsibilities. But also between Moncloa and Zarzuela. Sources consulted by They got up indicate that, beyond the difference in how they addressed the tension during their official visit to Paiporta, the military deployment has caused friction between the two.
The focus is on sending a small elite contingent to the service of the Crown. It is about the Guardia Realwhich usually provides security and support work to the Royal House. The soldiers who are part of this body are highly qualified and pass a series of access requirements marked by the high level of demand, both in skills and physical tests.
The origin of these frictions dates back to last Thursday, the date on which the regional president, Carlos Mazónraised his voice to request the presence of new units of the Armed Forces, beyond the UME troops that had been operating during the last few days. By then, Moncloa was already slipping that the military muscle had not been redoubled because the Autonomous Community had not requested it.
To what extent would the new capabilities go? The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Angel Victor Torreshad to respond to this question in an appearance before the media. But Felipe VI went ahead. It was around 6:30 p.m. when Zarzuela announced the sending of a small contingent of fifty Royal Guard troops prepared to join the work in Valencia. A breath of fresh air for the Valencian population, who demanded more hands and criticized the lack of resources in the most affected municipalities.
But until now the Government had only been assigned one deployment of the UME. After seven in the afternoon, Zarzuela pointed out that any doubts about military participation – including the Royal Guard – had to be answered by the Government. And a few minutes later Víctor Ángel Torres appeared before the media, talking about the capacities that would be assigned to Valencia.
The Minister of Territorial Policy spoke of a new wave of 500 UME troops that first thing the next morning I would already be in Valencia. However, he did not make any mention of other members of the Armed Forces. Nor to the Royal Guard, as Zarzuela had communicated a few moments before.
military escalation
Political sources consulted by Vozpópuli refer to the extraordinary office that Pedro Sánchez and Felipe VI held on Friday, without media presence and where they addressed the situation that affected Valencia, as well as the response that should be provided to the magnitude of the tragedy; among others, with the deployment of the Armed Forces.
That same day the Government announced the deployment of new military capabilities, beyond the EMU, to scale up to the current figures. According to the calculations of the Ministry of DefenseAs of this Monday afternoon there are nearly 7,800 military personnel deployed in Valencia, from the UME, Army, Air and Space Army and Navy. But there are also a small number of other bodies or organizations, such as the IGESAN (General Defense Health Inspection), with five personnel. Also from the Royal Guard, which at the last count numbered 57 troops.
To date, however, it has not been seen no image of Royal Guard troops working on the ground; the small contingent announced by the Royal Family and that is already participating in the work in response to the DANA tragedy.
Paiporta
Felipe VI and Pedro Sánchez have shared more scenes during the coordination in Valencia. This Sunday, the king, accompanied by the Queen Letizia and the President of the Government, moved to Paiporta, where they were received by an angry crowd, who demanded more means to alleviate the consequences of the storms.
Sánchez left the scene aboard his official car, but the kings remained in the municipality attending to the affected neighbors. Shortly after they met again in the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI) of the Valencian Community, from where emergency efforts are coordinated in the face of the tragedy, which has so far claimed the lives of 217 people.
Pedro Sánchez attributed the Paiporta incidents to a previously coordinated “violent minority”; The king pointed out the need to “understand the anger and frustration of many people because of how bad they are having it.”
