The change affects devices older than 10 years running on the Android KitKat system, for iPhones there is no specific date yet.
WhatsApp will no longer be available on Android KitKat after its update on January 1, 2025, affecting many older devices.
Owners of the following phones should purchase a new device if they wish to continue using the application:
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
Apple’s devices are not affected for now, but it is expected that support will also end on iPhones older than 10 years in 2025.
For those who want to modernize their old phone, this year can be a good time to switch.
