From queen to loser: three bright film roles of Evgenia Dobrovolskaya

The actress had many theatrical roles, and we will remember several of her images from the screen. After all, Evgenia Dobrovolskaya played a lot in films – and these roles of hers became no less memorable.

Alexandre Dumas’s novel “Queen Margot” was filmed several times. The Russian version was directed by Alexander Muratov and Sergei Zhigunov. They presented Evgenia Dobrovolskaya as Queen Margot, and this role brought fame to the young actress. Her partners on the set were Dmitry Pevtsov, Mikhail Efremov, Sergei Yursky, Nikolai Karachentsov, Mikhail Boyarsky… Palace intrigues, bloody clashes, love – in 18 episodes of the film there was a place for everything that could captivate the viewer, but Evgenia Dobrovolskaya herself was not too fond of this your role. In particular, because she was re-voiced.

“In fact, the filming period was very long and there were many conflicts. The six main characters did not voice themselves, that is, Kharatyan, Dobrovolskaya, Efremov, Sotnikova and several other people do not speak in their own voices. And the voice is half the role. In the film by Stanislav Govorukhin, Evgenia Dobrovolskaya played the loser Anna – she is an actress, but she gets only minor roles, on the personal front everything is also bad, men pay absolutely no attention to her. The heroine is almost in despair, but her friend Musya, played by Maria Aronova, supports her – the duet between the two actresses turned out to be truly bright. And according to the laws of melodrama, everything ended well, of course.

The filming process, however, was not easy this time either. Dobrovolskaya recalled that the director “kept shouting that everything was bad and disgusting,” but today “The Artist” is the favorite film of many fans not only of Evgenia Dobrovolskaya’s talent, but also of soulful, sincere cinema.

One of Evgenia Dobrovolskaya’s last roles was the role of a mother in Svetlana Ustinova’s film “The Season is Winter.” The plot is based on the relationship between a daughter and her mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The actress was paired with Yulia Snigir on the film set. At the same time, Dobrovolskaya said that she is not afraid of the role, and does not believe in superstitions – in order to play a woman fading from illness, she consulted with doctors and foundations. This work became one of the most piercing in the entire filmography of the actress.

In 1987 she graduated from GITIS, where she studied on the course of Lyudmila Kasatkina and Sergei Kolosov, played in several theaters, but most of her creative destiny is connected with the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov – she served in it for more than 30 years, since 1991, and played many leading roles. Evgenia Dobrovolskaya is also known as an actress of films and television series. During her career she starred in more than 100 television projects. In 2005 she received the title of People’s Artist of Russia.
